I ran stock boot for a long time because of it. You could take a dermal with sand paper bit and take some material out of the boots. To fit bigger carb. But I will get you some pics.

Can you send me some pics of your set up? How does the sbc adapter work.? I am running the stock boots, just have a zilla intake on.  I really was struggling to get this to work. What a pain! I was half tempted to put the stock carb back on, then decided I've come this far so wth!

So I looked at the sbc adapter, that looks slick! So from what I read, I need a air box to carb boot for a zilla as well. What all is involved getting the adapter fitted? Anyone have an extra zilla carb to air box boot laying around?

 Yoir running stock boots right. If I put my 38 on my stock boot. I took boot from air box off clamped it to carb first then routed it around shock and reclamped it to airbox. But I had rad valve on my front.  Its a pain in the but. You could get sb design trx adapter plate then you use zilla boots on the 91 92 250s that what im doing on my 91.

Well she runs! Not great, I still have jetting and float level issues, but she fired up without a lot of effort. I was happy to hear it for the first time. I had never heard this motor before, so it's a bit of a relief the PO of it was honest!!

So the one issue I'm having unrelated to jetting is my air box ducting is not lining up with the TM38. I'm running a zilla intake and got the hose to fit the opening of the carb by boiling it and stretching it over. It fits great now. The problem is I can't have it connected to the carb and air box. The angle of the dangle is just wrong! I'm sure others are ruining the TM38, so how did you make all of this fit? Do I need to eliminate the air box?

Bikes looking GREAT man! I hate wiring these things but hey, it's gotta be done lol

You outa pick up a tether kill from KingsRacing on eBay. They are pretty cheap and clean up the bars a LOT

Almost done! I just need to finish the wiring , put the carb on and new sprockets and chain! Maybe tomorrow I'll get to fire her up.

I got them off Ebay directly from Maier. I searched "quadracer" and they came up. They had a few sets according the auction. Now I'm hoping for a blem hood and cap, but I don't think that will ever happen! Here's to hoping.

Were did you find them for 245 $. I looked everywhere for them for cheap. I ended up buying stock style white carbon fiber for 379 $. You got a good deal. I was impressed by mine no blemishes on them, their pretty much flawess. Great build. Get a chance check out my build thread hq build Section

Blem just means no factory warrenty with the cf print on them

My yellows were blem because the fronts were a little more orange than the rears

They are blems! I couldn't resist for $245!! I can't tell what the issue is with them yet, so it can't be too much.
I have a decent set of OEM yellows still and new maier yellow rears. I'm feeling like a hoarder.....

New plastics came yesterday! They are the white carbon graphite pattern. Need to get a new blue hood and cover next. Slowly but surely things are happening. I am hoping they fit a bit better when bolted down.... Still happy with how they look though. I also realized when looking at the pics, I need to tighten the seat cover up a bit.

Progress has been a little slower than I wanted. The weather has gotten nicer around here, so I decided to finish fixing the ltz400 instead.  It blew a head gasket last year in Florence, OR. Decided to fix several other little things as well while it was down. Took it, the Raptor 700 and the trx250r to Moses Lake last weekend to do some shake down runs in the sand. Weather was 63 and sunny!

It's supposed to get rainy again, so I will get some good quality garage time with the lt250r then......

Nice work. Both of your quads look great.

Good to see you did a complete tear down. Easiesr way to find problem areas like frame damage and bearing issues.  I've had mine down to the frame every year that I owned it except last year. Always find issues thar need addressed.

Thanks!  The color for the frame is brilliant blue, the a-arms and steering shaft are just an 90% gloss. Medium gray. The hubs seem to work just fine. They slid on the splines just fine, the same amount of force that was needed to put the stock hubs on. No issue whatsoever. I did not try them on the stock axle. That may be slightly different than the durablue axle.

Very nice!! If you don't mind me asking exactly what color blue that is as I need to order some.
Good luck with the honda hubs but think you will find out they won't work. The splines are a different pitch if it's 24 you need yfz hubs.

Finally got it back from powder coat and started re-assembly.  I am using yfz450 front shocks and a ltz400 rear shock. I am a pretty good size guy, so I figured these would be a good fit, or at least to try them. The stock ones were blown.  I have installed all new bearings, tie rod ends, ball joints, camber shims, and have done the bump steer mod.  I figured if it was apart, why not?

I picked up a durablue 2+2 rear and have both trx 450r rear hubs so I can use the sand tires off my ltz400 and the stock 5 bolt rear hub.

I am getting excited to get this all together so I can ride it. I recovered the  rear seat and am hoping to get a new set of plastics for it. I polished up my Q pipe and silencer, wheels, and had the motor bead blasted so it is a nice silver color.

Almost.......brrrrrrrrrrappppppppppp!

The motor doesn't get scuffed up as bad like the frame, a arms, ect, so you would be fine with just paint. But if you leave the bottom end together but pull top end off, close up water pump, its not hard to soda blast.  2c

Well today was productive! I got the carb cleaned, and the quad torn down and ready for sand blasting.  I still need to finish taking the spindles off the a-arms, but at least the frame is clean and ready to go. I am considering having the cases coated as well, but that seems like a whole lot of work!! Maybe Ill just repaint the motor?
I also found out the swing arm and a-arm bearings need to be replaced. What's the word on the urethane bushings that I see for the 250?  Are regular bearings better? I need to order up both.  I already have the wheel and carrier bearings on the way. Figured why it's a part why not get everything taken care of that i can. 
When I had my zilla all torn down, I gusseted the frame. Are there any areas of concern with the 250 frames? What else should I do while I have it all apart?

I will give that a shot! Never thought about using it for that.  I hate working on greasy stuff. The rear shock must have been blown for a bit, as the oil from it was on everything, then dirt buildup over that. Combined with a carb that leaks a little and more dirt and grime......well you get the picture.  It is nice to be seeing paint again.  I want it to be as clean as possible before sandblasting.  Makes their job easier and the powder coat guys are much happier as well.

Not too bad sir! some non abrasive hand cleaner will clean that engine up as well. Hand cleaner works on everything, gets rid of goo and no chemicals to damage paints/plastics. Abrasive hand cleaner will make the seat covers "pop". Use Lots, dont be frugal.

After a few good hours of clean up, it doesn't look too bad.  There is still more cleaning to do, I think I am going to strip it completely down and powder coat the frame to match my zilla.  I pulled the carb apart and it doesn't look too bad inside. The air/fuel screw was way out on it. Maybe that's why it smoked so bad. I also pulled the reed block.  It appears one side isn't sealing completely. That may be a contributor as well.  It started yesterday on the third kick without the choke. Compression seems good.

Yup, a good bath for about 6 hrs will more than double the value especially with a title. As far as the fuel goes I have heard many many methods. Nothing wrong with octane, just no need to over octane a motor. Basically you do not want to detonate with the lower octane numbers. In Las vegas i can buy 100 octane at the pump. If your motors are not full on wild builds. I do not see any reason you would need more than that octane level. As far as oil  mixes go, i have ran all the way from 20:1 to 150:1 amsoil sabre! And all the motors lived in racing enviroments. A lot of people will chime in. But, somewhere around 32:1 proper jetting and timing, and cooling system you should have no problems. Yes, I have even ran outboard motor oil from walmart @ 50:1 for long periods of time just to show my riding buddies that you do not need to spend 15 dollars a quart lol! Stuff is actually pretty good. I do still run it from time to time. A lot of the premix oils are priced by "appeal".

I've often wondered the same thing! This pig is gross. I plan on cleaning the heck out of it first before ever turning a wrench. I've already ordered te wheel bearings and hope to have the carb cleaned this weekend.  The PO said he mixed the gas and oil at 50:1. My zilla gas is mixed 32:1. Would it hurt to run the same fuel? I run 110 octane and 927 in it.

It always amazes me how people never clean up the bikes before they list them for sale (generalizing). Always works to my advantage tho. So maybe i shouldn't complain about buying bikes that are covered in an inch of dirt and grease. Getting a title at that price is awesome! Good score!

I just picked up a 1991 lt250r. It appears to be pretty much stock.  It runs and rides but has some issues starting up. I believe after a good carb cleaning and maintenance that should change. I was amazed at how much easier this bike is to kick over compared to my 87 zilla!! I got it for $600 with a title. I don't think I did too bad. It needs some love, but I think it has the potential to be a nice bike.  The rear shock seems to be dead as it just bounces, it needs to rear carrier bearings, new seat cover, front plastics............the good thing is that the top end is pretty new. Maybe 10 rides on it. I am going to do a compression test on it this weekend.  I don't know if I am going to do the frame off as I did my zilla, but this could be a fun project.

It came with a Vforce reed set that I need to put in. Are these any good for the 250? I know they are for the lt500r, at least the V1 and V2 from what I have read.

Any known issues with the 250 that I should address as I am going through it?
Are these rear shocks re-buildable? Anyone have an extra front fender for sale??
