My grandpas Pre-WW1 argentine Mauser still has it's cosmoline on it from the armory in 1893. That stuff is best for storing things that you want preserved for your great great great grand kids. Lol

I use maxima chain wax. Easy to use and lasts.

Cosmoline will make anything last. I had a fun time cleaning that stuff off of a Mosin Nagant.

Cosmoline spray is the best, but you will have to either use gasoline or hot water & detergent to get it off.
I believe this is what was on my pipe. It was like a quarter inch thick even after hanging up for the past 9 years.

Well, it'd be a messy cleanup, but I'd feel safe from rust in Lucas oil treatment. I mean, I've never stored anything in it, but I bet it would work. That stuff is the sticky icky.
I rubbed down a few 110 cylinders with it and it's lasted pretty damn well last I seen them.
My FTZ was coated in this oil stuff that was the consistency of vasaline and daaammnnnnn......
But you need an actual spray though. The liquid wrench brand white lithium grease (white can with blue label and lid) is about the best we've found so far. Y'all know that we keep engines and other parts open to the atmosphere for looonnnnnnnnnng periods of time. It hasn't failed us as of yet

I've got my spare crank in a ziplock bag filled with white lithium grease. My spare transmission is in a box full of bearings: rag on bottom, bearings, generous WLG spraying, rag, rag, transmission, WAY MORE WLG spray, wrapped with rag + zip tied.

Any recommendations as to how to best store spare, used engine parts (gearing, crank, etc.) for the long term? Cleaned, coated with oil? What kind of oil, etc.? Bagged, boxed? Thanks.
