What is it about the early years that you like iceracer?  Is there any mods you like to do to the old swingers before racing them? Things like gussetting, or adding slabs of aluminum around carrier housing?  Are they lighter than 87'+?

Not worth the aggravation . Get the stock shock rebuilt or get an Elka set up properly. I like the early rear setup a lot if there set correctly.

That's what I'm asking how much different and how much is involved with switching it over. I assume there different where linkage mounts and the top shock mount ?

The frame is also different.

So it sounds like its not worth fitting up the 91 92 swinger just for the z400 shock. Or is it worth it for just the modern shock and linkage then get it revalved?

throw a +4 swingarm on and revalve the shock and It will ride good Im 200lbs and ran that spring in my TT bike at Ashtabula It was perfect for a correctly valved shock -2 swingarm and jumping.

I bought a 91' LT250R that had a Z400 shock on the rear and a standard length swinger.  It's way too stiff.

The Z 400 shock is also just a little too long needs to be shortened so It wont bind the chain at full extension  Over jumps. you will need to build a new upper shock mount in the back bone of the frame directly off the end of the breather tube.

The z 400 shock is to stiff for the 91 92.   I tried it once  then I put the quadracer  spring on a z400 shock and it was too soft.

I know the linkage is diffrent. But can anyone shine some light and tell me what's diffrent? And what would need to be done to the frame to run this setup?
I want to run the z400 rear shock and the 91 92 swinger.
Someone please shed light to this subject!
Also how are they mounting between the engine/frame and grinding need to be done there? I dont think so because the swingarm bearings kit all combine so they should be all the same width... So its just the linkage.
