I have a question about my clutch as well. Maybe you guys could help. When at low rpm and easing  into the clutch, my bike launches smoothly and shifts fine. But when I'm in high rpms and pop the cluth, it makes a grinding sound like  something metal is banging/grinding. What could this be that's causing this? Clutch out of adjustment?

Do these metal reinforced rubbers fit on studs, or does their girth provide a tight enough slip fit?
Maybe they're just held on by a pair of large nuts?
It's entirely possible the rubbers needed some lube before insertion but were put in dry, and as a consequence the rubbers broke.
Sometimes with a really tight fit, you need to warm up the receiving pocket and lube it to prevent damage and unforeseen consequences.

Lol im talking about when you take the gear off the back side of the basket their are rubber cushioners incased in metal. I think their is 8 of them and they cause the wabble inbthe clutch basket.

Run it till it breaks, then fix it. then run it till it breaks again, then fix it. repeat till you sell it.

I agree with zilla273 you basket bad
My quad was doing the same thing  with my stock basket. Bought a billet basket fixed it. The rubber behind  basket gets hard and lets them wobble. But  I dont know where to get the new rubber at  for them.  But if the rubber is bad and you use it in your billet basket the noise will still be their.

Oh ok.

So, is this anything I should be overly cautious about? I beat the crap out my lil 265 (when I can actually ride).

its most likely clutch basket chatter, mine did this before and I replaced clutch basket assembly, and prob was gone
and What is causing the chatter in the clutch basket?
on mine the ID of the basket is worn

Been discussed before nature of the design I believe, heard new ones do it, takes the shock on a launch.

Sounds like the springs on the backside of your clutch basket are tired, old, loose..

Would that be the case? I'm not sure exactly how long ago, but probably about 15-18 years ago is when this bike came down from michigan with a nuked clutch basket. My uncles replaced it then bought the bike. it wasnt rode long before being shoved up in the woods for 13 years. You think it would be the springs?

Ok so y'all are thinking its the little flat washer bearing thing between the clutch pull pin and outside clutch piece thing?

The LTs, and most, if not all, RMs have a Torrington needle bearing at the end, and some, mostly older RMs, use a ball and rods in addition to that.

I was thinking the throwout bearing too. Does the lt clutch have a little ball in it at the end of the push rod like a banshee?
I never had either suzukis bottom end or clutch apart so i dont know.  But i do know my banshee did something similar and i found the ball at the end of the push rod was all beat up, kinda oval.  Replaced with new plates and springs, dont know what actually fixed it but it was fixed.

Keep your eye out for beer drinking gremlins.

My 500 makes a similar noise with the clutch out. Disengage it and it goes away.

I am curious to see what it might be.

The clutch basket bearing could be loose on the shaft causing the basket to wobble. My Trinity motor has the same noise and that basket wobbles on the shaft quite a bit.

Hmm. Clutch throwout bearing?

I noticed this a few rides back. When idling in neutral and the clutch out it does this weird chugging noise and has a bit of vibration. Yet as soon as i grab the clutch that goes away?

http://youtu.be/q-XlUPhkI1c

I completely went through the engine last year when i was rebuilding the bike and checked all the bearings and they were all good, all 3 timing marks are lined up, crank has zero play in it, the clutch basket and disks are about 14-15 years old but sat for 13 years of that so they are basically still new. There are no grooves in the basket at all and there is plenty of friction material left (they literally looked brand new when i had it all apart and they werent coming apart or anything)

Any ideas? Hopefully y'all can tell the difference in the sound via the video i posted. OH, im running Type F in the bottom end i belive. But it was doing it when i was running 20w-50 as well
