Title: Re: Jetting Question - Big Reed vs. Small Reed

Yes there will be minor changes needed typically a slight tweak on the A/s , a needle  clip adj and a main change. Nothing major though , usually the pilot circuit is most effected due to a stronger signal working on the orifices from the smallreed having a higher intake velocity and less damping effect due to a smaller intake tract volume.

Let me ask a different question. Rule out the 87 carb. Assume the owner has a good working 88 plus carb. Is there jetting changes required when swapping between a small reed and big reed cylinder?

Suzuki tried to make the 87 carb work like a four stroke carb.  Installing the jets from the 88 to 90 carb will not make the 87 carb work the same as the 88 to 90 carb.  The 87 carb needs some machine work on it to make it a good carb.

Say someone had a stock 87 LT500R engine and wanted to install a stock small reed jug. All things stock -

Do think jetting will have to change?

The 87 Carb was jetting alot different than the 88-90 carb. Is this a dumb question?  <1> :-\
