After I torqued them down last time they have yet to come loose again. I took it out to the dunes and rode it a bit and they are still tight. Thanks for the follow-up.

Just use a reglar ol nut. Then don matter how fur dem threads pop out, take em each hafe pas snug like yur changin' lil ol car tar. I like use a justbul wreench we call KY fit all. Then don matter fits sillymeters or incheS

Okay-
I am having issues with keeping the acorn nuts on my head tight (joke in there somewhere!). Anyway what are you guys using to keep them tightened to spec. I don't even have 2 hours on the top end yet and I am getting loose nuts! Have torqued them several times already. I noticed coolant leaking so I checked them and most were loose. The top end was re-done by HPR so it is an o-ringed head. Any suggestions.

Did you find out what was making your head nuts get loose?

I am not. It was on there before. I am going to give it a shot without the sealer.
Edit: It was a pain to clean up!!

Yes these are o-ringed studs.
Why are you putting sealer on the o-rings? If everything is done correctly you should not put any sealer on ANY o-ring.

I'm not discounting the benefits of it, it was intended to be a humorous connection between copper head gaskets and copper washers.
It's not very funny if I have to explain it though.

O-ringing a nut? It was a joke!
It is not a joke, it is a good idea to seal the studs or nuts with o-rings.
O-rings around the head studs are OEM on some of the jet ski engines.
The stud placement has to be part of the original design because there has to be space to machine the appropriate groove around the stud.

Go back and read quadster twisted my words a little. I rung my nuts out and some stud came through and messed some stuff up!!!! +k2

Make sure your torque wrench is set to 20 ft pounds standard and not metric. There was a buddy of mine had that same problem. He kept blowing his head gasket. Turns out he was actually torquing them to like 3 ft lbs lol
Worst comes to worst get a new torque wrench

20 N/m = 14.75 ft/lbs
20 in/lbs = 1.6667 ft/lbs
I could understand accidentally using N/m instead of ft/lbs, but in/lbs?

I run washers on my capped nuts but I put two dabs of silicone about the size of a bb and torque it down. haven't had one leak yet.

on mine they just peeked through making the top of the nut look like its hinged on one side. barely noticeable cause the motor sits so high in the frame on the 500's

Thats why I selling the taller Acorn nuts, and my washers are 0.040" thick, how much are your stud threads hanging out?
Washers are .040" thick x 16mm OD x 8.4mm ID #110 Alloy Half Hard
Acorn Nuts are Plated & Flanged, 16.75mm Flanged Base -Smooth Bottom X 16.50mm tall, Head Size is 12mm (Wrench Size) 15.90mm deep.

Man i wish i new that when i had my stuff at your shop i would of had you fix that. I plan on putting my quad back together this weekend. Can i just put an extra washers for now if i need too?

The studs have to be shortened to prevent this from happening on most LTs.

Coolant can seep up the holes in the head. The copper washers are suppose to seal this but sometimes they leak.
Copper washers are old tech, always leaking...you need to get your nuts O-ringed.
O-ringing the studs or nuts adds considerable cost to the job.

I didnt think you had to torque the orings head AS tight.You might have pinch your orings.I thought you just got them tight and use some silicone on them. That might be your problems their
Do not use any type of sealer on the o-rings.
Any and every head should be torqued to keep the bore round and minimize distortion. The head bolts do not have to be tight to make the o-rings seal but they have to be tight enough not to vibrate loose. 18 to 20 ft-lbs should be the proper torque spec.

I have the same set-up as you and not issues so far. Are you using sealant?

I have double copper washers under each nut which was recommended. I am torquing to 20lb. ft as the manual states.

what are u torqueing them too, also make sure the nuts are not bottoming out before contacting the head 2c I didn't have any issues keeping mine tight
