yes even the k&n with the pre filter should be ok
out west a k&n is no good, the sand is very fine and will pass through a filter.
just think total protection uni filter, there is even a truck filter that works really good.
maybe someone else will chime in. but i think you will be fine with either filter.
but very dusty conditions you may have some get by the K&N.

I mostly ride trials up north in Michigan, with an occasional dune trip. I try not to ride through mud but sometimes I can't help it. Would a foam uni filter with an outerwear be ok to run in these conditions with no airbox?

a uni is about the best for stopping any debris from getting in motor, all depends on where you ride, and what kind of riding.

I will replace both those seals this weekend, and use some copper rtv on my flange and pipe. Does anyone have any input on the air filter? Is it better to use a K&N or a foam uni with no airbox?

the shifter seal and sprocket seal can be changed with a good set of picks. no need to pull motor apart.
clean motor really good and then find where it is leaking

DEFINITELY wait to run it after doing the rtv. I gooped the flange on mine when I was running the cr motor, waited about 4 hours, kicked it over and it blew the silicone out through the silencer LMAO. Use a lot of simple green, to clean it up, then use laquer thinner or acetone on the surfaces before applying.

What is the counter shaft seal? Where the sprocket sits on? And i have some copper rv rated at 700F. You think that would be good enough?

I run the air box so I have no info for air filters... I run a k&n w/ Outerwares.
Hi temp rtv is a good choice for what your doing, just give it time to set up before you go riding.
The oil leak sounds like its coming from the counter shaft seal from your description. The seals aren't to expensive, I would replace both the c/s and the shifter seal while your there. They both can be installed with out removing your engine.

I have no airbox on my lt250r. Right now I am running a K&N right now with no outerwear. What is the best filter and outerwear to run with no airbox? I will mostly be doing trail riding and dunes. I do not ride in muddy conditions very often. Also I just installed a new DG pipe and it has a small exhaust leak between the pipe and the flange, is it ok to use a high temp rtv to seal it? My motor is also leaking a bit of oil after I get done riding. It looks like it may be coming from the shifter seal, is this common? There is oil around the seal and some on the motor right above the seal that drips down, I cant see where it is coming from. SO i assume it is coming from that seal and spraying everywhere.
