will try all that has been suggested. The engine is still in frame as it is just the water pump i need to get to as i had oil weeping out the weep hole and it was suggested to change oil seal. That is really the only reason it is coming off.
  appreciate all suggestions , thanks

2x1 piece of soft wood, and hit it hard all the way around with a rubber mallet.....

put an adjustable wrench on the clutch arm and turn it counter clockwise like was said.  that ussually frees it.

there is a couple places on the cover where you can tap on, there little tabs sticking out of the cover.  you could tap on those if you have to.

just be carefull what ever you do, doin't want to break anything.

I know it may seem stupid but did you take all the bolts out? I've done it so many times it can be just one. but other then that I don't know what to say that hasn't been already said.

Is it sticking at the seam? Take a piece of pine or a soft face hammer and tap it.

I had just recently done this to my bike and when removing the cover you have to turn the clutch arm where the cable connects to and turn it counter clockwise and that should help you get the cover off
