How would you get a frame mounted case saver in there in front of the sprocket Tex?
This would be a good point to make a separate thread discussing case saver designs.

I only mentioned that because I was running an sblt case saver when it broke the bosses off my case.
Nothing against the case saver, it's a great piece and bulletproof...wasn't damaged in the least when the chain let loose.
I'm also not saying that running a case saver is worse than not running one, because sometimes the chain just feeds right through and doesn't cause any damage at all.
Until something like a frame mounted case saver is made, sblt's is probably the best option.
Think about this though, if the case saver was made of chromoly steel and the chain got bound up between the saver and the sprocket, do you think those bosses are going to stay put?
They're going to be ripped clean off the case along with the case saver.
Something attached to the frame wouldn't damage the case and would absorb all of the damage into a replaceable part.
A lot easier to buy a new part than repair a set of cases.

Cool. I will plan on doing it whenever I have to split the cases. Will also be getting a sblt case saver in the meantime.

Or you could ordwer one of SBLT500's case savers and not have to worry about it. I'll run nothing but now after many years of dealing with derailed chains.

The case saver bosses can be broken by the case saver during a chain failure, and beefing the bosses up usually only leads to bigger holes in the case.
Sometimes when that happens the chain damages the shifter shaft as well.
What needs to be made is a frame mounted case saver that doesn't use the engine as a structural component during a chain failure.
It's easy to repair a steel frame, but repairing holes in the case or fixing bosses is a lot more involved.
Maybe something that attaches to the engine mounting bolts that doesn't require welding?

This is the only thing that I didnt like about the zilla I bought. At some point, a chain snapped or came off and broke the upper sprocket cover boss. . The little bit of threads left actually do hold the cover in place.
I would like to get one of SBLTs case savers, but is there enough meat left here to hold it in place? Im sure this has happened to other 500s before.
Anybody ever get this kind of thing repaired before? It will have to wait until the first time I split the cases, but just doin mah homework.
