NGK LB05F plug boot. Look to be around 3-5 bucks on fleabay currently. The higher ones have free shipping. This is a resistor cap.

I've seen these replaced/upgraded, do you have pics and the NGK part numbers?

Thanks

You can also buy just a new plug end for like $5...I just change the whole thing as the originals are pretty old.

Any place that sells ATV/snowmobile parts should have one.I prefer the red NGK racing cables and you just cut them to the length you need. They come in a 90 degree or straight boot.Go with the 90 degree. They,re a tad bigger but if you spray some wd 40 on the wire and in the coil tower you can slide it in pretty easily.I usually put some silicone around the top of the coil where the wire goes in to keep moisture/dirt out.You can even slide a rubber boot over the wire and coil top.The NGK cable also uses a rubber boot style on the plug end which is better than the plastic caps found on some.

Usually a good pull will get the wire out of the coil but if you have a heat gun you may want to heat up where the wire goes in and it will help losen the glue they use from the factory.Just don,t go too crazy with the heat.

After shopping around I think you're right..  I would like to just replace the wire and boot.  Where do you buy yours?  Thanks for your help..

Why not just replace the cap or better yet just buy a new wire in insert it into the coil?I generally put a new NGK wire/cap in all my coils.I can take a pic if you,d like.Easy to do.

Welcome to the site, The 87 coil supercedes # to the 88+ Zilla coil #. Go with Factory parts. I believe 87+ 250 coil will also work.

Hello everyone!  It's my first time on the site here and after looking for a related article, I decided to post.  I recently replaced the top end gaskets on my 87 lt500.  When we were putting the plug wire back on we broke the boot trying to get a solid connection to the plug.  So I'm looking for a new coil pack and it seems like 87 is different than the 88-90 (like a lot of parts I know), and was wondering if there is a preferred, aftermarket brand by members, or if grabbing a used one off of ebay is adequate?  Thanks in advance for your help.
