tell ya what ill buy ya a titled 450 frame and swap everything over for your zilla as payment lol
-
That's what I want to do. Would like a separate zilla motor though so my current zilla build can stay in tact and be built more for drag racing only.
-
buckeye, you can do the opposite hybrid, trx chassis with a zilla motor S~
-
Hey, two bikes...two hybrids!
-
I'll buy your 450 roller and unused zilla motor if the price is right Ohio doesn't require title just bill of sale.
-
Go For it at least the pipe will be easy to build......
-
do it. it needs to be done. if it feels wrong it definitely right.
-
more power yes, but having the cases machined to have inserts put in can get real pricey too unless you can completely disassemble the motor yourself and put it back together.
-
I think it would be cheaper to just do upgraded bearings/thrust washers, depending on budget maybe mild porting, would be reliable and have more power 2c
-
I'd say work with what you got, if you already have a zilla frame and a good trx motor and have the time to do the conversion, go for it. sure the trx makes less hp but it is by far more reliable in factory trim than the zilla. Sell the left over parts and call it a day.
-
You can sell that frame to someone in a state that does not require title Just a bill of sale and take the money and buy a titled frame, swap all the components out and bang you got a titled 450.
500's are a lot or work PERIOD if you have a strong runner. You could go street bike motor in a quad but that's lots of $$$ and time to build it right.
IMHO the bombusa is a kick Arse bike for big guys but it's lots of $$$

::)

:p
-
rpms , you can build the newer 450r up to 11,750 rpms.(revolution per minute)
-
Also higher rmps out of the 450s
Higher ramps out of the 450's?
I am confus.
-
I say go for it.You can build one heck of 450 motor these days. Also higher rpm out of the 450s
-
After riding both quads I like the way the zilla feels. The 450 is tricked out (full front and back extended suspension...ect) and only the motor case and most of the frame are stock. Even with all the bells and whistles I like the way the zilla feels. The 450 was very twitchy. On a mx track it would be great but I ride big dunes. I guess it all comes down to preferences. I'm a big guy 6 foot 4 -6 depending what convenience store I walk out of and 280lbs. The lt500R is the most comfortable quad I've ever ridden. I've tried the DS650s and I hate them as well. Big guys need big quads.

Don't like the idea. 2c
-
I have to agree with Cunningham
X2
-
I have to agree with Cunningham unless you want a project that may be cool.
-
why not sell the zilla and buy a titled frame????? why put a good motor into a shitty chassis like the zilla?? I guess i dont really understand i see titled 450 rollers cheap all u need is a title.

UGG WHAT HAVE I GOTTEN MYSELF INTO???
A whale **** :D
-
i have two complete bikes to work with (the TRX450 is running something like 12.5 or 13 to 1 compression, and was converted to kick start as the factory electric starter left my buddy stranded way to many times ). i have a good camera and a scale. a full blown build thread will happen. i know i will make mistakes and i will post them as well as to show what NOT to do. it wont start right away as my garage looks like an episode of hoarders right now. i will set this up and show all the steps i take. since i cant ride and the season has only about two months left (here in las vegas it is way to hot to ride as 115+ during the day it cools down to a nippy 100 at night ) i will be doing this over the summer. i my cooler garage.
as for the parts that i do not need (the motor, exhaust, carb, intake, etc) will be put up for sale AFTER the build.
hell... i may even attempt to swap the zilla motor into the 450 frame just to say that i did it.
UGG WHAT HAVE I GOTTEN MYSELF INTO???
-
sell me you 500 motor, :)
-
I say DO IT! It's rare, less maintenance, less fuel, less oil, less worries for you. Now sell me your Q pipe and engine.
-
Weigh both engines with all associated components and document weight changes, I'm interested in seeing how they stack up in comparison.
In fact, you should document everything as well as possible, pics, videos, measurements, before and after pics, etc.
Might as well graft the newer suspension on while you're at it ;D
Also, it's not worth it if you don't get an electric starter in the process!
Think about it, a zilla with a charging system and magic button...
-
Of course you are gonna get the die hards to say that is a bad idea. And they will say that you should re-build the 500, this time using an RM wrist pin bearing & billet thrust washers. But it's your project to do as you wish & there is no doubt that a Honda is a reliable motor. Just remember that there are modifications that need to be done to the 500 to make it reliable as well. Maybe you can put the 500 engine in the TRX frame? S~
-
OK don't bash me please. but i've rebuilt my 500 twice and blew it up twice. i love the 500 two stroke but i don't want to sit on a grenade every time i ride.
so... i have this built trx450r that i inherited but cant get paperwork on it. (no it's not stolen) but a messy divorce before my buddy passed away really really messed up any chance of getting paperwork on the bike. then i have my broken zilla with wrist pin bearings dropped and trashed the rod and piston. so i am thinking of putting the trx450r motor into my zilla frame. the 450 put down 53hp at the wheels last year and has needed no work to keep running. just gas and go. it sips fuel compared to the zilla motor i had and put down the same HP numbers on the same dyno a couple of years ago when it was running. plus i thought that it would be a fun project and i can sell the parts i already have (Dr.Q pipe, carb, intake, reeds etc) to fund the project. so, no out of pocket expenses for me. i have a welders and fab tools and i know how to use them. all i need really is motivation to get this thing off the ground.
i've searched to see if anyone has even done this swap. i was going to swap a street bike motor into this but cant afford it. so as soon as start the project, i will post pictures in a thread of it's own.
if you know of anyone that has done this swap please let me know.
i will be putting up some stuff for sale soon so keep an eye out for that soon as well.
