I've successfully downloaded the entire site on a 64GB flash drive, uncompressed at 31GB, but didn't have much luck with the 32GB (one drive was successful, the other wasn't, same brand, both new).
The problem is that the program used to mirror and view the website does some strange quasi compression on the hard drive, and making a zip file doesn't reduce the size.
So rather than possibly losing information and not really gaining anything, I've decided to leave it uncompressed.
It takes my computer about 25min to move all of those files on a super speed USB 3.0, about 2.5hrs on a high speed 2.0. (3.0 is still expensive, about $75 for a flash drive)
If there's anyone else who has some decent hardware on their PC that would like to share the load with me, send me a PM.
So, the stats of the website mirror...
19,922 threads and 206,674 posts, 25 blogs and 29 entires on the mirror, compared to 19,925 threads and 206,681 posts, 25 blogs and 29 entries on QRHQ.
That means the mirroring missed 3 threads and 7 posts, which were all recent after the site came back online (I accounted for every post just to be sure).
Every check I made of random threads yielded the exact same results in the mirror, so I can safely say that I have a 100% copy of the website as you can view it right now.
Want to get your hands on it?
Just send me a PM and I'll give you an address to ship a 64GB flash drive to (or however many copies you want, distribute to fellow quadracer fans, etc.).
I'll copy the website on the flash drive along with the program to view it on your preferred browser, and send it back to you.
Return shipping would be awesome, but it probably won't be an issue unless I get hammered with hundreds of requests.
Check Google shopping for flash drives online:
https://www.google.com/search?q=64gb+flash+drive&rlz=1C1GGGE_enUS457US484&aq=f&oq=64gb+flash+drive&aqs=chrome.0.57j5j60j62l3.2635&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8#q=64gb+flash+drive&hl=en&safe=off&sa=X&rlz=1C1GGGE_enUS457US484&tbs=cat:3712,pdtr0:706370%7C64%2464,vw:l,p_ord:p&tbm=shop&ei=unROUbKMK-PSyAGm1IHwBQ&ved=0CJcBELsNKAI&bav=on.2,or.r_qf.&bvm=bv.44158598,d.aWM&fp=f6be71327ed7c658&biw=1920&bih=912 (https://www.google.com/search?q=64gb+flash+drive&rlz=1C1GGGE_enUS457US484&aq=f&oq=64gb+flash+drive&aqs=chrome.0.57j5j60j62l3.2635&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8#q=64gb+flash+drive&hl=en&safe=off&sa=X&rlz=1C1GGGE_enUS457US484&tbs=cat:3712,pdtr0:706370%7C64%2464,vw:l,p_ord:p&tbm=shop&ei=unROUbKMK-PSyAGm1IHwBQ&ved=0CJcBELsNKAI&bav=on.2,or.r_qf.&bvm=bv.44158598,d.aWM&fp=f6be71327ed7c658&biw=1920&bih=912)
Or just go to Best Buy/Office Depot/etc. and get one there (you'll probably pay more for them at a store).
-
Now i cant get on the site?
-
Tex my name wasnt in that list,, just my MasterBlaster login and i cant remember that password lol..
-
Perfect thanks Tex.

Website mirror is complete and fully functional at 18GB compressed, 32GB uncompressed (just over 1,000,000 links functional).
This means that I can't fit everything on a single disk, but a flash drive (or an external storage drive) would be an easy alternative.
So, for anyone that wants a copy, you can send your flash drives to me, I'll copy the website to the drive, and send it back to you.
I'll have to see if the files will fit on a 32GB flash drive (~$25), if not the price goes up just a little for a 64GB flash drive (~$40).
Storage space is an odd thing when talking about compressed files, sometimes it'll compress and reduce space on a large hard drive but won't function when confined to a smaller space than its uncompressed size.
Rainman...the pictures didn't show up, so the only option is to get them from Skully if he still has them.
-
I have it on the quad, but haven't had a chance to ride it (long term restoration project).
Seriously awesome axle though, I'd be interested in one for my LTR if you ever make more!
-
WestTexasKing have u tried the TI AXLE?
-
Ok thanks.I,ll have to wait and see what turns up.
-
I'll have to check the archive once it's completed, but it's very doubtful.
Might check with Skully, it's possible he still has those pictures on his computer.
Site mirroring progress:
879,000 links scanned
764,000 links saved
33.5GB total
Had to pause the download while I moved some files off my SSD, you'd be surprised how quick you fill up 120GB...
-
Are the pics gone for good in this hybrid thread?

Found a menu to display the access masks that were in place on the forum.
Anyone who is on this list that was denied access but not banned, now has access to the forum.
Alkyzilla
Chickenhawk
Deebo
DirtySanchez
dirtzilla
Jeremiah25
mallen
MasterBlaster250
maxxh2o
miatv
quadracer88
quadster
skcusq
TheWife
toydoc
I also went through the banned list and lifted the ban on anyone that I thought wasn't a spammer (had to sift through several thousand spam entries).
Hopefully that will give everyone access to get what they need!
One thing I want to add is that's it's pointless to post up BS on that forum, it'll only be up for a few more weeks, and all it's going to do is slow down the mirroring process or cause errors.
-
Hey guys, just wanted you to know a little tip for PM's on the old site.
If you have PM's there that you want to save, there's an easy way to do it!
Go to your private messages and scroll down to the very bottom left of the page.
You'll see this:
Download all Private Messages as:
XML | CSV | Text
You have the option of choosing whether you want them as an XML, CSV, or text file.
Unless you know what XML or CSV files are, I would highly recommend going with the text option.
Once you click Text, the forum will immediately compile all of your messages into a single text file (.txt for notepad/wordpad), sent and received messages are included, and will be downloaded to your computer.
I had 413 messages and downloaded them all in maybe 3 seconds.
Get to saving all the info you can guys, only have a few more weeks to grab it!
-
Tex thanks again for copying all the info. I cant believe that there is that much information on the site its pretty impressive.
-
Got you fixed up bud
-
Hey Tex I'm locked out also, I can log in but when I do I can not see anything it just says I do not have permission to access that page and that is on every page.
Old ID was: Quadzia
Thanks
-
Fixed your settings badmoon.
If anyone else has problems with the site, let me know.
Site mirroring is at 638,000 links, 28.33GB.
I hope it doesn't get much bigger because I elected to use my SSD instead of the 4TB HDD...the SSD had 36GB free and I though, SURELY it's not going to be anywhere near 36GB...
-
If I log in over there I am locked out of everything but by PMs. I can look at the forum if I am a visitor. I could not find any of my replys. I think Robert deleted everything that I ever posted after he made his very brief shooting star type re-entry.
Same here Jerry.
-
Jerry I'll take a look and see what I can find.

35000 posts and 34000 were johns so I feel he should just be given the domain!!! :)
-
JIM!
Where you been hiding out at buddy?
-
Who was the Mod on that thread? Wow over 35000 post in the for sale section QHQ
-
the Daraji thread is a perfect example of what off-topic and spam can do to a thread. a 30-something page thread with about 5 pages of useful information.
-
AND PAID AND PAID AND PAID............
-
Sorry John...... The domain name "QRHQ.com" belongs to RK, I just built the site and payed for everything.
Jim
-
One of the problems with staying on topic...without a reason to talk about something, nobody talked about anything.
For example, I start a thread about lightweight axle options, people talk about the usual JJ&A, LT230 axle with GForce hubs, etc. then someone brings up a titanium axle.
That starts a discussion about the merits of titanium and if it could be used on other things besides axles, and before you know it the discussion has nothing to do with axles.
Well, the thread went off topic, but now there's all sorts of great information about how to use titanium to build other stuff.
Without that thread, nobody would have bothered to talk about titanium parts on LT's.
Now that's just an example to describe what I'm talking about, not necessarily an accurate account.
Some of the off topic discussions there would have never been started if it weren't for getting people interested and thinking about a certain subject.
I didn't bother enforcing that kind of stuff too much because it would have detracted from the forum and made people lose interest in posting due to being chastised for going off topic.
Without new posts, a forum stagnates...and when a forum stagnates, that's a good indicator that it's going to die.
QRHQ wouldn't have lasted much longer anyway, regardless of Q shutting it down, because people lost interest and stopped posting useful stuff.
The older members got tired of answering newbie questions and would simply refer them to the search bar.
Newbies got tired of hearing that and wouldn't post their questions and ideas.
The bickering between fanboys drove most of the members that were somewhere between the two extremes away.
Not much left to salvage after that.
Trying to stay on topic is fine, but if that's the only conversation going on in a dying forum, then you'd better let it be.
Check out some of the big forums and you'll see a completely different dynamic.
You start a thread, lots of people are posting, people go off topic and nobody cares.
Why? Because there's still plenty left to discuss and the off topic posts are buried under the on topic posts.
It's near impossible to derail a thread that has plenty of life in it.
Threads that go off topic and never get back on topic just didn't have much life in them.
A good example of this was the Daraji thread, people went crazy off topic but it always came back around because there was always something new going on.
Threads going off topic aren't the result of other people, but rather a result of a topic that's lacking in substance.
Not always the case, but it is for the majority of the time.
So, take that into consideration when a thread goes off-topic.
Either have off-topic posts, or have a dead topic that leads to a dead forum.
-------------------------
Mirroring is at 290,000 links, 14GB worth of website copied so far.
Still no idea how much is left.

no thanks Mitch, i want the old site. thinking of calling it Greeks place home of the Suzuki LT

I honestly think SQHQ has a lot more potential than QRHQ, a bit of teething problems initially, but those can be fixed.
QRHQ might have more information, but it's loaded down with merged topics and lots of that info is buried in unrelated threads.
Makes it difficult to find the stuff you're looking for.
With the archived website, I'm considering lots of editing/pruning to streamline the information and posting it here.
The idea is to make everything readily accessed and found without having to wade through useful but off-topic information (which will be merged with a similar topic or in its own dedicated thread).
Going to take months of work at a minimum, it's a big undertaking.
yea, general moderation was terrible over there. None of the mods, other than the globals, really did anything so posts would go wildly off-topic. And when you did people just got pissed. One time I suggested to someone that they needed to stay on topic and he got so pissed that he was spamming my pm box demanding explanations. I told him to stop spamming and he starts sending the definition of email spam...??? After that i didnt even bother anymore.
-
I have a ATV HQ site to sell ya John!
-
Jim do you wanna sell the old site,
-
Yea I'm guilty too... [|]

So many of these threads get contaminated / useless crap... you look at all the oldest posts... a question was asked.. couple posts and an answer... not much thread jacking went on, and many threads were a page or 2... now seems like most threads get lots of useless "fluff" and go on forever... makes searching a little more time-consuming and tedious sometimes.... just the way it is i guess
Well I gotta make a bazillion comments so my post score goes up lol... duhh lets get with the program tony haha

I think QHQ should stay open and we continue to post over there. Maybe clean it up a bit and eliminate some of the politics over there.

OK guys, a status update on the site download.
I'm using WinHTTrack Web Copier, free software, pretty simple to set up:
http://www.httrack.com/ (http://www.httrack.com/)
Problem was, the default settings shut off at 10,000 links, and QRHQ has considerably more than that.
After finding the problem, I updated the download and so far I have 171,000 links scanned.
So far that is equating to 8.7GB, no clue how small it will be after compression into a zip file.
There's also an option to make a plain text copy of the website, so if you're copying a forum it'll save the posts but omit the pictures.
For the vast majority of information, that's all we really need, and the file size should be considerably smaller, perhaps even small enough to email.
I'm still planning on mirroring the entire site to get as many pictures as possible, and when it's done I'll make a thread to distribute the file to anyone that wants it.
Before I started updating the information with new settings, I gave it a try with the included software.
It opens your default browser and it acts like you're browsing a website offline (stored on the computer).
No waiting on internet connections to load a huge picture, as soon as you open a thread everything is just magically there!
I browsed the sh!t out of QRHQ, and even disconnected my router to be sure it was actually my computer that was producing the forum.
Almost got a chubby it was so fast LOL
It works just like the forum does, a few dead links are there (stuff that has to do with posting messages or rating threads etc.), but you can click on a username and it'll pull up their profile.
In the profile, you can find all of their new posts, check out their photo albums, read their blogs, etc.
The software does a great job of making sure as many of the links as possible are functional to make it operate just like the online version.
Once the mirroring process is complete, anyone that wants it will have access to the entire site in just the same way...pretty F bombing sweet, yeah?
Thinking about doing the same with this site every few months, just so there's an archive of everything that won't be lost if the site goes down.
A bonus to this is that if the SQHQ server goes up in smoke, the archive will allow Mitch (or whoever's running the show) to rebuild the site as of the last archive update.
The domain might be gone, the server might go down, website owners might have a disagreement, but the information won't be lost!
-
Sorry Jay, the old site (QRHQ) goes down for good when the 30 days are up.

That wouldnt help this forum a whole lot now would it? Also too many issues Jim would have to deal with also.

Been missing this picture..
Q.
Of course...........
I kept waiting for the "horde" of Banshees to come to our camp and "show us the goods" but it never happened.
There were some good running DUNER Banshees at Olds and China Wall, but the Quadracers had something for them every time.
The funniest was Kirk racing his HBD (Hill Billy Deluxe) stock 250 chassis w/a 500 motor and a pipe his dad home made against the fastest Banshee of a group out at China Wall.
Yes....he won.......and we have video.
Iceracer and Joe Rock put the smack down as well.
I'm sure there are faster DRAG Banshees, but our bikes are REAL duners that run all day, every day.
In truth, we would have probably invited them to come party with us and the whole "challenge" thing would be on the back burner for good.
It's all good...........no matter what you ride.
There will always be someone else who is faster......

Like Q said, we did lay the smackdown over at china wall. You have to see my quad to realize why it was so funny.
It is a bone stock '92 chassis with a '87 540 H.B.D. motor. My dad ported the jug himself.
It is running a 48 lectron w/ pump, K&N, V-2's, and a homemade pipe (made out of an old microwave and some RTV silicon).
The bike is 100% sleeper.
Seeing bike in person was a treat. Wish there was more photos so everyone could see the stacked double radiator sticking out the hood too.
I have a feeling that the next few weeks will be nothing but nostalgia posts.
-
WestTex, what software did you use to copy everything? Just curious...
-
Download is complete, it missed a few pictures here and there...not sure what the deal was.
Total size: 1.57GB after compression.
Going to make another pass to see if it'll pick up the rest.
Some of the pictures on QRHQ aren't there anymore, so they're going to be lost.
I just noticed that the "let's build a hybrid" thread doesn't have Skully's pictures, no telling what else is missing.
Thats still great Cliff, I was looking at the hybrid build earlier with all the pics. I'll try to c and p the pics.

19hrs and still going strong, up to 5.7GB now.
There's a little bar that looks to be at 60%, but it's constantly changing position.
I have no idea how much longer it's going to take, but I hope it won't be too large for a single blu-ray disk.
That way I can burn a disk and send it to anyone that wants it, or send it to Mitch so he can upload it to SQHQ in a dedicated archived forum (what do you think, Mitch?).

Skully just contacted me to tell me he is allowing the old site to be up and open for only 30 days. Allowing QHQ members to research data, what you do with this data it is up to you, If you decide to re post on any type of forums please reword it in your own words as to not to plagiarize any ones writings.
Clock is ticking on this, this may be the last time this information will be available.
