power jet is just an extra fuel circuit to add more fuel at close to WOT. a hole is drilled in the inlet bell portion of the carb and a fuel line is ran from the bowl to it.

Carl meant the powerjet. My 87 tm38 doesn't have the boss that you drill for the hole for the powerjet. I applied some epoxy to mine to have a level surface to drill the hole.

Can you elaborate on the 'powervalve' part?
-
They have 2 advantages I know of.
1- not 20 years old everything is tight.
2 - they have a boss for a powervalve cast in.
The cable you referenced will work.
But a stock Zilla cable and thumb throttle won't the carb cap is not recessed like the oem.

Does a new tm-38 have any advantages over an '87-90 lt500 tm-38?

Does the throttle cable from a Gunnar gasser copy/keihin 39 pwk work with a tm38?
I'm thinking of going with the mikuni carb. If anyone has a decent one complete let me know what your asking $
