Does anyone know what that packing material 500Fanatic was selling is called or where to get it?  Is he a member on here anymore?  From what he was saying it sounded like it was THE stuff to use....

Mike still sells the packing material.  Hit him up.

Density isn't always a good thing though.
If the packing material cannot compress, then it also cannot deaden the sound.
A very loosely packed silencer will reduce db levels considerably, but it won't last very long.

The trick is not to increase density, but to increase the springiness of the packing material.
If the material will compress to a high degree, it will absorb more sound, and if it springs back to fill the silencer then it will continue to work well.
The problem is, most packing materials don't spring back out as well as needed...so you have to pack more stuff in there.
Higher density stuff has less compressibility, so you have to stuff more in and reduces the effectiveness of the silencer.

Supposedly, the stuff from 500Fanatic was far superior to the standard packing available now.

I think they use the insulation to protect the pipe in shipping not to pack the silencer

That is what Q packs the silencer with...  He ships the pipe in it so you have plenty of packing material.

I always use  the stuff made by fmf and it is way more dense than the insulation for walls

Actually, they use it to pack the silencer...it just has the added benefit of protecting the pipe during shipment.
If it was just about protecting the pipe, there's plenty of different packaging material better suited for the task.

fx4, are you talking about the stuff that was in a tube/rope like form?
You just wrapped the silencer mesh with it and stuffed the whole thing into the silencer body, if I'm not mistaken.
I was looking for it too and can't find any solid info.
Looks kinda like this?

This is what came with my Q2...  It seems to be more dense than a standard wall insulation.

The usual stuff is wall insulation with R value I do not know.

I need to repack mine anybody have any idea with R-value to use with a Hall-n-a$$ pipe?
