Put it in high gear and let it coast down hill. Just hit the brakes now and again.

Ok. Thanks. I suppose the clutch will have to suffer now and then because I am not going to run down a hill like that under power. :-)

No it is not detonating or trying to hurt itself because your were running most of the hill at wide open throttle.  In the other video it sounded like you were running the engine at high RPM but at about 1/4 throttle opening and running very lean.

Coasting down the hill with the clutch pulled in, is hard on the throw out bearing and clutch plates.

Guys think that they are cooling there engine by coasting down the hill with the engine idling.  The water pump is not pumping much water at an idle.   You  are primarily cooling the water that is in the radiator but not taking much heat out of the engine to put into cool radiator.  You have to move alot of water through the engine to move the heat into the radiator.

Alright.  I thought I would post this because it had never happened to me before.  The engine revved and I killed it.  At the bottom of the hill, I started it again after checking throttle movement, obvious air leaks, etc.  Same thing, engine revved to the moon and the kill switch wouldn't stop it.  Had to grab brakes and dump the clutch to kill it.

The main jet came off the needle jet allowing the needle jet to move up in the throttle bore.  I assume that was holding the slide up a bit causing the rev.  Can anyone say disassemble a carb at Lizard Hill?

The engine was experiencing detonation as you were going up the hill at partial throttle. I kept saying to myself to stop the engine or change throttle positions before you burn a hole in the middle of the piston. The engine had that horrible lean sound with run-away preignition just before you killed the engine.

As the need jet moved up, it had the same end result on the mixture as leaning the clip on the needle.  If the needle jet moves up 1/8" it would have the same result as moving the clip about 5 notches.

I guess I don't know what detonation sounds like.  Is it detonating in this run as well?  http://youtu.be/FoZWHw_809c

ignition(wire come loose, plug wire, plug broke, cdi went out, stator went out)
fuel(carb, fuel ran out, fuel shut off)
motor(basket gear came apart and locked up motor, skirt came loose and locked up motor)
beats me, what happened
I agree ran out of gas.

Take a look and name the malfunction at the end.  Nope, didn't miss a gear.
