There's a lot of videos of people burning their pipes on YouTube. I wouldn't though. I wonder if brake cleaner would work

You can use muratic acid, I've used it on the outside to clean off rust and inside a oem steel sleeve cyl that had seized and had aluminum transfer. Ate the aluminum right off leaving the bore clean.

If its the headpipe section a propane torch on the carbon till it glows after that a flat head screwdriver scraps it away with ease.

Oven cleaner?

Dawn grill cleaner. Talk about some AWESOME stuff. May not be caustic enough though for carbon inside a pipe.

Hmmm.... The first time I had my pipe repaired I soaked it in a gallon bucket of the carb cleaning acid. What about filling it full of that stuff? Plug on end and don't fill it COMPLETELY so you can shake it or put some medium size steel balls in it to clean it as you shake it

Yea il give that a try. Does carbon build up effect performance. I know to much would restrict air flow.Would it damping sound waves.

It can change sound wave. It can make a pipe ID thinner which can change the sound wave. It can make the wall thickness more which can change sound wave. Lot of things can change the way sound moves.
Will it affect performance, maybe, but it will take a decent amount of build up before you notice any effects.

try soda blasting.  It will also clean the rust off the outside without damaging the chrome.

A radiator shop can hot tank your pipe just like they do a radiator.. its cheap and it will be squeaky clean.  I learned that from a local Plating shop.  They wouldn't let a dirty used pipe near their chemical tanks.

Exactly, that's what Matt also told me when I was having some pipes replated.

If you hot dip a pipe, does it hurt or ruin the finish? Chrome or nickel?

The pipes I had cleaned at the radiator shop were raw metal.  I can't say how that would affect an already plated pipe but the shop should be able to tell you.
I paid good money to a local shop here in phoenix for a very good triple plate chrome job. I'm still very happy after a couple years.

Soak it with pb blaster or wd40. The next day you can rinse it with gas.
