LT185 clutch adjustment
« on: May 23, 2016, 02:12:29 pm »
Just picked up a 84 LT185 for my nephew and the semi auto clutch is slipping badly.Anyone have the procedure for adjusting the clutch.I know its under the cover with the 4 screws and have heard about backing of the locknut and turning the adjuster counterclockwise?I have a repair manual on order but if anyone is familiar with these and can give me some info would be great.I've never worked on one of these before.

Also going into reverse grinds like crazy when trying to shift it by pulling the lever up as if a gear is still spinning. When I do  finally get it engaged then it works fine. Not sure whats up with that either.
Can,t fix stupid.:)

Ended up being burnt and extremely warped steel clutch plates.Changed the friction plates while I was in there. The shoes were in good shape as well, looked like they had been changed. No slippage whatsoever now but still grinds a lot going into reverse.
