Buddy of mine has one a 88 he also had a diffrent one a few years ago a 87 they dont run anything like a lt imo  and a serious lack of parts available. He did put a 38 pwk and radvalve off a kx250 that woke it up a lil biggest problem is not a huge selection of pipes available.

The T4 motor is the biggest hunk of **** of the 250's of the time. It was the hugest flop and there's a reason that no one offers parts for it lol. They messed that motor up by changing it. JUST MY 2 CENT. I've not ridden or owned one so I'm no expert, just what I've read and seen in videos and crap.

My cousin has one. It was a pretty cool bike. I always enjoyed spanking him on my TRX though. Always brought a smile to my face.

Always wanted an 88 Tecate. From what I know the engines were pretty good but yes aftermarket support is slim.Pretty sure sprock racing are the guys to really make the kawi engine come to life, even does some big bore kits.Biggest issue with the Tecate4 is too narrow.

Never ridden one. How do these compare with each other if both are stock? LT vs. Kawy?

In stock form the Kawi has more power, the last kxt3 its where it got its engine from and those will easily out muscle a lt250r or a 250r atc/trx. The handling wasn't good but all of the 250s suck imo compared to the trx, dangHonda knew how to make them handle.

I had a buddy with one 15 yrs ago and I had a lt250 with a fmf pipe that's all I had and he couldn't beat me. They are a strange looking quad that's for sure!

Even Honda loving dirt wheel mag tested them back when they new and they also said out of the 250 kawi had the power house engine. The article was scanned on the old site.

I agree with PCS. In all the dirt wheel test, in stock form, the tecate had the strongest motor in both 3 or 4 wheel version. Fact.

The B1/B2 T3 (86/87) and the T4 engines were completely different. The stroke x bore was flipped and the port timing changed up. The T4 engine is the 'blaster' of the 250's. But once you've modded it it does come to life.

Harry Klemm was THE Tecate guy, now Sprock is the guy. Both Klemm Vintage and Sprock Racing are still on business and Klemm is doing R&D on building the 350cc Tri-Z engines again.

Oh!! And there was another company that was big with the Tecate back in the day that is offering their 310, 330, 350 and 375 (I think a 375,,, can't remember..) engine kit again

I test rode a klemm 330 t4 back in the 90s.  That motor screamed but the chassis was a handful for sho. This was with spacers and a +2 swinger too. It felt like a 50 hp blaster lol.

T3= best 3 wheeler ever. T4= 33hp stock,  lt250 was 31 and a 250r 30. They were completely reversed in handling. The T4 is a terrible handling quad. I always like the power on my friends 87 T4, It was terrible to ride till he got a +2swinger, 2+1 A's and a 2+2 axle and works shocks. Then It was a blast to ride, especially with a Klemm pipe. Kawieriders forum has a tecate section and there are some aftermarket parts being made and 330 big bore stock cylinders using kawi jet ski pistons. I'd like to have a t3 and 4 someday. Iceracer has a T4 and SBLT500 has a really SWEEEEEETTT T3. T3 with a kx500 would be really sweet...
