More Reasons Why Pump Gas Is Bad
« on: December 16, 2012, 01:00:54 am »
so in my chem class we had talked a bit about ethanol, how its made, common uses, ect. we focused mostly on its use in distilled liquor and denatured alcohol since its what we used in lab. we did also discuss its affinity to water and how it can dissolve large amounts of water that it picks up from the atmosphere. i applied this knowledge to ethanol in fuel and looked in to how it affects fuels in our automobiles and atvs. found lots of info that worries me and especially for 2 smokes. here are some links to watch/read with random info, the 3rd link demonstrates the effects on 2 stroke fuels

there is much more info on the draw backs of ethanol that you can easily find with google but from what i gathered is if you live in an area with lots of moisture and use pump gas for premix, only make the amount you need a dont store extra fuel. the moisture will combine with the ethanol in the gas and undergo a process called phase separation. when it does the you then create a layer of fuel that has water in it and no oil. not as bad for a 4 poke but a 2 strokes, BAD and best of all it sinks to the bottom to the tank so when you first fire up your engine, the first shot of fuel has little to no oil in it. here in hot A$$ southwest AZ, the climate is relatively dry, so moisture in the atmosphere is not as bad as in other areas and in my case i ride all the time so my gas does not sit in the tank long. like i said, there is much more info on the topic, so if you are bored at midnight and what to give your brain a work out look in to it.

Good info, In our 2 stroke race boats we are required to run marine 93(no ethanol), after every race it gets drained out and fresh put in for the next race. Ethanol fuel In the boats would be even worse.
If brains were gasoline, you couldn't power a **** ant's go-cart 2 laps around a cheerio.

No way, the water transforms your engine into a hybrid IC/steam engine and gives you higher efficiency.
More efficient engine=more power

steam powered  +k2
found a memorandum on the EPA.gov site about the concern of introducing ethanol into petroleum gasoline. i like the careful wording chosen, "can damage, possible cause damage."

The natural approach to water injection. Cools the incoming charge. More dense= MORE POWER!!!

Water/methanol injection has been used in aircraft engines since WWII, boosting power anywhere from 10-25% past 100% rated power.
Water/ethanol carburation sounds close enough for me LOL

Why? I would think the water vapor coming out the exhaust would help keep your lawn hydrated.

i stand corrected.  Mix a little fertilizer and you're in business.
