2013 Glamis Quadzillathon
« on: September 03, 2013, 09:23:37 pm »
Cooler weather & dune season is around the corner. But with the projected price increase for dune passes, let's play this one by ear.

Anyhoo, does anyone want to start putting some dates up to start planning this out?

I just confirmed with the AZ dirt mafia that there're going out for Fall zilla-thon the 1st thru the 3rd

Location TBD, either Roadrunner (preferred) OR washes (not perfered).

Fuss, I'm not sure if I'll be there my shoulder and back have been hurting me pretty good.

Crash Lander, even though Buttercup is only 15 minutes from my place, it's worth the extra 45 minute drive for me to go to Glamis. Buttercup is just as fun but it's a different atmosphere there at Glamis. Not really the party spot it once was years ago, but just a nice place to ride. You will have fun there.

Buttercup has the low west side bridge to jump into the water or the more interesting east side bridge for more of the same water fun. Last time I was there like 8 years ago the vendor area had ribeye steaks. Even at $17 per steak (potatoes, mixed veggies, and a roll) I couldn't pass that up.... No grill to sweat over, no dishes to wash... To stuffed to ride.... Food comaaaaaa.   :))

Its not just me going. I have stayed away from Glamis area because of the dumb party freaks though. There's still a few weeks.

What (comp) hills are closed at night in Glamis?

Last time I was at comp in glamis there was a killer white trophy style truck racing up the hill and then back down... Using that rise before the before the hill as a jump. It was insane seeing a truck hammer down comp and hit that jump flying about 6-8' in the air for a good 200' distance

Does the store still sell gas & race gas? It's been awhile since I've been to the store

Isn't it just the big weekends that the hills are closed?

From what've heard it does not look like anybody will be going out early enough to grab a spot on Roadrunner, if this is the case since it's a holiday I'd venture a guess they'll be in the washes, either 2, 3m or 4.

Does the store still sell gas & race gas? It's been awhile since I've been to the store

No, they do have it at Glamis Dunes Storage (GDS) but I'd try to get it some where else unless you like it in the ass.  There is the Arco at Salton Sea (no paperwork) or Red Earth if you come out the 78 & head north 12-18 miles or locally in SD like Dion & Sons but I believe they require all the paperwork BS.  You can also PM Kennerz on where to get it locally in SD.

Comp hill next to the highway is closed at night.  Olds is open for mayhem and watching enjoyment.

Getting gas at Costco can be trouble I guess too. I took my 55 gal drum one time, now I seen a label on the pump saying you need a permit to pump large amounts of fuel.. What do the motor home people gotta go thru?

You coming Kennerz...?
Here is a little vid to get you in the mood...

Should be some awesome riding out back in the big stuff, probably fresh untracked sand on Friday, maybe sat too. Been to long... I can almost imagine shredding thru the dunes... sweet.  Been a long windy rainy summer out there, wonder what it will look like...?

Comp hill next to the highway is closed at night.  Olds is open for mayhem and watching enjoyment.

Yup, Olds had been comp hill for years now. Olds is huge compared to the old now closed Comp hill.
might be thousands of people at the hill that weekend on Fri or Sat nite. Maybe more during the day. At nite after a good game of flare tag, we'll probably bring some fire wood out in my RZR and start a fire on top of the Hill, sit back with a couple cold ones and watch the mayhem, its amazing what you might see. Mad Max time,  lol

The Texaco at Sidewinder Rd & I-8 sometimes has race gas. It's only about 2.5 miles East of Ogilby Rd. so it's not too far out of your way if you are coming from the San Diego area.  Yuma has a few places you can get buckets or barrels VP race fuel. Also, the Loves Travel Stop at I-8 & Ave 3E has Sunoco race fuel at the pump. Sellers Petroleum on Pacific Ave also has Sunoco Race fuel as well.
