We go out every New Years, but to the washes instead as they are better for the family.  I'll be out there for sure and have to make it a point to swing by the group.

My family might even be out there from 12/26 - 1/2.  Trying to get there before the crowds and avoid the line home!

I bought a traveling Pellet Smoker, should be able to do a 14lbs shoulder for BBQ pork sandwiches, that should feed a few of you out there.
I would do Aussie Burgers again, but the aftermath would cause too many methane gas deaths

My dad and I are planning a trip out there.  Planning to leave here 12/26.  It will take a couple days to get there.  Maybe we can meet up with a few of you and get the grand tour.  :)

We are planning to stay a couple weeks to see the New Years crowd and then, hopefully, some not so busy days...

Mitch the AZ group & the FL crew are all out there for New years, we usually get there a day or 2 after X-mas.

I think it'll be the same as usual in the washes, wash 1 or I think maybe 2 this year ask Dale?

Why don't you set it up to have everybody come stay over in the washes and we'll one big camp and we can all ride together?

Thats always a great trip.  My family can usually do 3-5 days that week.  Wash 4 gives alot of space and good hard pack for the big rigs to park. I'm flexible far as any of the washes but down past 10 is far from the vendor conviences.

Reason Joe and I were thinking Roadrunner was to ride a different sections of dunes, riding the dunes south bound of the canal and riding through the dunes to Olds I thought would be fun. the group coming out really do not have alot of dune riding experience, the dunes around Gecko and Roadrunner are pretty rolling for beginners.

Plus I am willing to feed ya too!

We'll be there.

Gecko is preferred, but Gecko camp sites, especially Roadrunner will be at a premium for sure. Its kind of like Malibu on the beach real estate. Got to get there very early in the week to camp in  those areas. Its real nice there, not much rif raff, and imo, best access to the big dunes out back.  Great sunsets and sunrises  there since you're up higher than down in the washes. Many of the big dollar high HP sand cars hang there.
Lots lots less dust in the air anywhere on Gecko road. The washes that time of year can be choking full of dust that you can't see 20' in front of you around wash road.

I know some of us like the washes best, so wherever is ok with me. Low number washes closer to the beach store are best for sure. Seems the AZ crew goes to wash 2 most of the time. But depending what last summer did to the end of wash 2 will determine if its still the AZ crews spot.

Be ready for some real cold weather around New years at Glamis. Last New Year woke up to a little frost on the machines 1 morning... Although it didn't bother Bret from sleeping under the stars...lol
It was fugging freezing out.

You might be able to rent a quad down there instead of packing your own...

Yes, the washes up to about 10 can get pretty bad.  That is why we go out to 15-18 to get away from the dust.  Plus more small dunes for the kiddies to ride on near camp.  Easy shot over to the "Toilet bowl" on the way out to China Wall.

Wow, big group going out from all over.  I'll have to swing by for sure to see all!

I actually like Roadrunner the best for the dune rides to china BUT it will be crowded with all of the big rigs, they will be parked 4 deep vertically parking lot style...too much crowd for me.

Plus all of the high HP buggies chew up the sand between camp & the dunes on the west side.

I prefer to not stay in the washes with all the dust but Gecko will be jam packed and the washes will allow us to circle camp deterring the rangers from cruising through camp looking for violations.  The good thing about Beards camp at the end of wash 1 is that we hardly ever see a ranger even on a big weekend like t-day or new years.

:D Its all about your driving skills.  There are some huge rigs out there, motorhomes, cars, etc.... .  One of my buddies has a 52ft triple axle race trailer he brings out with his stock Chevy 2500 with highway tires.  He doesn't air down.  Large rigs out there just need to go down Wash road and have somebody that arrived before them guide them in.  Its not usually an issue.  Lots of people out there that can give you a pull if you get stuck.  Last Thanksgiving I pulled out 2 motorhome with trailers when we found some soft stuff.

If your worried you can park closer to the road.  The further back to the dunes you go, the softer the sand gets.

As long as you stay on the hard pack it's no problem, usually there is at least 2 or 3 35+ ft triple axle trailers in camp
