new LT-R450 owner with a question
« on: January 03, 2013, 04:13:29 pm »
I just bought a 2007 and wanted to know how to check/service the oil.

It has a dipstick on the auxillary reservoir, I am assuming this is where to check the engine oil?

There is also a cap on the right side of the engine, is this where you service the engine oil?
 - or, is this for a heavier gear oil like 75/80wt?

Do I service the engine oil on the right side and check the engine oil at the reservoir?

theres a ton of oil debates on which is best for the ltr on ltr450hq.com  i have ran amsoil because i got a case from a friend but many many ltr owners seem to be running shell rotalla T 15w-40 i believe and they change it as much as they can because its cheap as hell.  i will probably make the switch myself.  just some thought, to each his own.  its an awesome bike, still nothing to this day on the market like it...lots of luck

and listen to kennerz about that O ring on the oil filter

The Rotella T has Zinc in the oil one of the few oils left that do. It makes it an ideal lubricant for metal to metal surfaces and Dosent seem to effect clutch life. The other Oil out that has this is Valvoline motorcycle oil, but its a bit pricy. I like the Rotella.

I run Rotella, in my LTR and Cummins.
