I cut them in 1/2 in the middle. I then cut 1/4 inch off. I then lathe a aluminum piece down to fit in the pegs to rejoin them. I leave a 1/4" washer (so to speak) on the lathed rod to prevent it from moving around.
Surely you get the drift and can make your own joining rod. Or I can make you one. -
