If your looking for low-buck, I'd drain fluids, pull chain and clutch cover. Remove clutch basket assy and rotate/shift thru all gears and inspect the shift shaft and star. Make sure the pull tabs on the shaft line up even with the star. Check the basket for clearance as stated above when putting it back together. Try light weight oil.
