So I pulled my reed valve aannd..
« on: January 04, 2013, 02:14:41 pm »
When I pulled the reed valve on my 87 I noticed there were no gaskets but I just received gaskets for it from hpr. The oem schematic dosent show any gaskets either.  What gives?

the rubber boot acts as a gasket

I always use a light skim coat of Ultra Grey on my intake gaskets and any motor with just the boot. I use it almost everywhere on my quads and at work.

I figuered the boot acts as a gasket, but why are the gaskets sold anyway if the stocker dosent use them. Are there problems with the stock boot sealing?

I wondered about the 87 aftermarket gaskets (intake) too. Never used them on any of the bikes and never had a leak. Make sure the intake is good and plyable, clean, flat cylinder mounting surface and a light coat of ultra grey.
I would think using the gaskets would make one more place for a leak to occur.

Cometic makes intake gaskets for the 87 & the 88.

They are listed under different bikes but the PNs cross reference.

3 or 4 bucks a piece & reusable
