Set bump to pulse dot timing location?
« on: March 30, 2016, 11:02:56 am »
I first tried to find this question before asking, friends!
Please Quick question, if I may: Trying to get the closest for correct timing! I'm putting new stator back in and have no visible marks on stator to line it up to the mark on case. Trying to use as a guide the flywheel bump and at TDC. Where should pulse coil (magnetic pin/dot) be when lined up on  bump? beginning/middle/end on bump when rotating flywheel?  About ready to fire her up! Thanks steve

There's a mark on the stator mounting plate, next to the third screw hole on the right, line that up with the arrow on the cases.

Also please post in the proper forums for your question.

Thanks

Thanks for advice! I'll be more careful when posting! Running in and out  trying to look up help in manual, internet, phone and working on this ZillaGorilla/ wears on your mind :-\!
I aware where the mark should be I have my old one to compare to. I also set  the oval shaped mounting hole centered to case mark again using my old stator for reference.
Question: To more accuratly set that mark can it be done by locating flywheel bump to pulse coil magnet dot to where it lines up on flywheel bump at start/middle/or end? while turning flywheel across pulse dot and then locking stator down at one of those spots? Read somewhere this can also set timing if mark on stator if missing? Thanks again

The only way to accurately check and set the timing is with a tachometer and strobe after using a degree wheel and pointer to mark the flywheel with a timing mark.

Trying to use the bump on the flywheel is somewhat futile because the air gap and the varying resistances of different pickups makes the trigger point vary.

Using the mark on the stator screw mounting hole will usually get you within a degree of the correct OEM timing.  The CDI boxes often have a degree variation from CDI box to CDI box
