So I took the zilla down to the Oregon dunes on Saturday after I installed the AAEN pipe and silencer. This is the first real time getting it out and stretching its' legs!I put a new clutch in it when it was being built. It seems to slip as the RPMS get higher and your shifting through the gears. I tried adjusting the cable and what not, but it still seems to slip some. Is this indicative of a bad clutch? Do I need to install another? Very weird, never had this happen before. What clutch (kit) did you use?

What type of gear oil are you using?

Did you have any free play in the clutch lever?

Don't use synthetics ive found. I took out my ebc springs and put in hd banshee springs and have had good luck. It is a tight fit but they wont slip.

I am using Bel Ray Gear saver in the crank case. I am not sure about the clutch kit as it was in a bag when I got the bike in boxes. It was new, just no paperwork for it. I am using the stock springs. It was like there was no spring return of the clutch lever. We pulled the bolt holding the lever that the clutch cable connects to moved it a few teeth back for more tension, adjusted it out and it got a little better. It seems to be adjusted as far as it will go and still slips a little.

Did you count the number of plates and fibers vs. the number that is shown in the manual?

What did your basket and hub look like? And ditto rider's question how many fibers and steels were there?

How much free play at the lever?

You know, I don't remember if I did or not!! I guess I will be taking it apart and finding out. There is a little bit of free play at the lever now. This clutch seems a lot softer than the ones in my Raptor 660 and KFX 400. Both of those bikes seem to have a bit more tension in the cable and is noticeable felt in the clutch lever. The zilla clutch pulls in with not a lot of tension (if that makes sense?).

My dirt digger clutch (w/ HD springs) in my 500 has a pretty light pull vs. my YFZ450 clutch FWIW.

You always need "some" free play in the clutch lever so your not slightly engaging the clutch and burning it up.

The stock clutch springs will not usually hold the torque that the new generation large diameter pipes make. The new generation pipes consist of the following, Aaen, Q1, Q2, DCS or HPR

I'm gonna be running 85-86 lt250 springs with Jerry's 9 plate Barnett clutch.

Banshee springs fit in the 500.

85-86 250 springs are among the stiffest I'm pretty sure.

That's what I'm running and I'm not 100% but I'm pretty sure they're among the stiffer springs you can get.

lots of people have posted in the past to put the 250 springs in the 500, it was top secret info on the old site at one time ,lol
i got some used lt500 stock springs here i think if anyone wants to compare lenghts with the barrnett ones, i remember the barnett springs being a little longer when i put mine in.

the stock ones i had in it all measure 1.275
