Took the cylinder off the hybrid I bought to inspect it better. It has been ported, just not sure to what extent. It has CT on it, but also has MCR on both sides engraved. Looking for thoughts as to exactly what I have. Thanks
Last 3. Sorry for the double pics..
port duration, size & shape of port, angle all play a role into what a motor can be labeled. port timing and size play a big roll.
Yeah, wished I could measure that. To technical for me lol.
Not really. Cant remember the name of it but it looks like a half circle with a an arm situated in the middle. To find angles. Protractor?
Anyway, Take it and mark it on a piece of paper marking all the little tick marks and make sure to make the every 10* longer for easier reading. Flip it over and finish the circle. Make sure to mark 0,90,180 & 270. Make some crosshairs and put a hole in the middle to fit your crank snout through.
BOOM!! homemade degree wheel. Not exact but than again your not porting your motor. Just an FYI kinda deal.
Remove the head to check port timing.
Get a piece of wire and wrap one end on one of your stator cover bolts to keep it still and make it long enough to come around to the side of the degree wheel to get a measurement.
Take your motor and spin it over to cover the top of the ex port with the timing edge of the piston. Put your degree wheel and get 0* closest to the wire. Roll the motor through bottom dead center and stop at the same point you did when you started.
You just measured your ex port duration. Do the same for the transfer ports. You now have your motor port timings. example is 196/128..
196 degrees of crank travel from the point the port opened to when the port closed.
Blowdown is another story and should also be factored in along with port timing and head parameters(squish gap, squish width and CC).
Thanks for the link and info. Very helpful!
Did you end up getting that hybrid over there?
Yeah, couldn't pass it up:)
Can we get some pic's of the exhaust port? Is the exh. Port tapered?
Ill try to get some tomorrow. Not sure if its tapered.
