What exactly causes those 'marks' in that case half?

The smooth surface on the bearing, detonation, severe clutch abuse...

The bearings wobble in the bearing pockets when the crank flexes.  After they wobble a bazillion times the outside of the bearing and the bearing pocket become pitted from the micro-welding that occurs while wobbling.
