Anyone ever messed up the exhaust flange mount on the cylinder?

• Anyone ever messed up the exhaust flange mount on the cylinder?

• Was putting the engine back in the frame and noticed this when putting the exhaust flange on.  It's one thing after another.

• Looks like it going to need some welding there on the top mount, looks like a crack.

• There is a crack.  It's only on that top block and doesn't go into the exhaust.

• Since it doesn't go into the exhaust will it still need to be welded? I mean yes, in the perfect world it would need to be done but what will it harm? and how does that even happen??
