Another LT500r carb jetting question
« on: August 25, 2014, 05:12:57 pm »
So I've had more than a few dune trips with my current setup (1989 stock Mikuni 38mm, Open air box AEM filter with outerwear, Full FMF mild porting, 86.5mm, 91 octane No Ethanol, 32:1 dominator, stock front/rear sprocket). I've found that a 22.5 pilot and 420 main have worked for me. (Center needle always). A good test was a ride at full throttle from Roadrunner to Dunes Diner in Glamis last year (30 miles). If it wasn't close to right it would have blown up on that ride!

The 22.5 pilot was at 3/4 of a turn on the air screw. As Glamisrider told me "I'd go with a 25 pilot".  Glamis altitude is about the same as I have in WI so I'm lucky there I guess.
Can anyone tell me how many turns out is maximum on the air screw? Or maybe what would be an equivalent starting point on this 25 pilot for turns compared to a 22.5 at 3/4 out. Right now I'm at 2 turns out on the 25 pilot but think its a bit rich
I've read about every post here on jetting and learned a lot from Motorgeeks post but I'm still asking the above question anyway.

I thought I had it dialed in on a nice hot day with low humidity only to find myself boggy feeling on another hot day that was SUPER muggy.

I believe the air screw is effective from 1/2 a turn out to bout 2 1/2 turns out. Id drop to the 22.5 and start at 1 1/2 and work from there

22.5 at 3/4 is where it ran good but it doesn't leave much room for adjusting.
The question is how many turns out would that equal with a 25 pilot? Maybe there isn't an easy answer to that question......
