Hi All,
What does it mean if my 1987 zilla takes a bit to idle back down after bumping the throttle. It seems to take a long time (15 seconds or so maybe a little longer) to come back down. Also
I seem to be getting coolant out of the weep hole on the bottom of the case under the water pump housing. What are the tell tell signs of a bad water pump or seals? I did not replace it when I put the bike together.
Thanks for the insight. Just trying to get punch list items figured out before I run it down to the dunes and dyno it.
The sealing washer under the water pump impeller bolt is allowing coolant to leak between the impeller and sealing washer on 90% of the leaking water pumps on the LT 500s. The water pump seal seldom give problems.
The water pump shaft cannot protrude above the surface of the impeller where the sealing washer seals against. If the shaft protrudes above the surface, replace the impeller or grind about .020" off the end of the shaft.

Slide height set incorrectly or slight air leak.
Thanks for the info guys.
