Carb identification and possible throttle cabl help
« on: April 09, 2013, 07:54:06 am »
Finishing up my 87 zilla. The new oem throttle cable is too short to work with my carb. I have a new omn thumb throttle, the little insert for the cable, and cable. Carb is a Mikuni 38mm. Has a plunger style choke. Markings on the right side of carb say
                                                                                             T38
                                                                                             86A

                                                                                             T4
                                                                                             91
I took a couple pics of the carb

Any help figuring out what throttle cable I need would be cool Thanks, Matt.

look on the other side.  should see a 43bxx.  The xx can be 00, 10, and 20.  00 is 87.  10 is 88-89.  20 is 90.  Also, you pics didnt come through.  You have to upload them to a host site like Imgur or Photobucket then link them to this one.

It appears to be a Mikuni tm38 replacement carb, not sure what it's off of though, may just be a replacement.

That's an aftermarket mikuni. It's pretty close to a stock zilla carb.
TM flatslide 38mm

I have the exact same carb on my 250
There's some info for you here, look at the TM38-86, that'll give you all the specs.

I converted my thumb throttle to a motion pro twist throttle. I found an adjustable cable that worked with my setup.
Motion pro has adjustable cables you can buy. This is the one I have that has a middle adjustment to dial in for my setup.

I figured it was a replacement carb. No markings on the left side. I found a cable with the middle adjustment in my cable bin. But it has the wrong end for the thumb throttle. Thanks for the help. I'm gonna check out Motion Pro for an adjustable cable that will work with the stock thumb throttle.
