88 lt500 running rough at high rpm
« on: January 02, 2017, 09:22:15 am »
Hello, I have an 88 quadzilla that is having issues right as it starts getting into the power band. As soon as the front end start to lift it sputters out. I have tried mains from 380-410 and changing clip position a bunch. The mods are an fmf pipe cool head and reed spacer. I have tried a readjusting my powervalve but it seems that if I adjust it clockwise it pulls the linkage down and as soon as I rev it the linkage moves back up and doesn't return. It also moves slightly with every rev after that but not much. Any help apreciated!

The stock setting for the PV is 1 turn CCW.  You might make sure the PV moves freely.

Not sure what your elevation is but a 360-380 would about as high as i'd go in my area with your mods.  <2000 El

Elevation is about 800ft. I have messed with the powervalve adjustment and it never seems to bottom out? It's hard to turn but it never stops. I have tried a few different positions but nothing seems to help. The powervalve also does not reopen after raving when I turn it counter clockwise.

The adjustment will just turn and turn until the spring breaks.  It only puts tension on the spring.  You should probably pull the adjustment out to relief spring tension then start over with the 1 full turn CCW.  Just use a pair of channels to grab the adjustment and pull to take it out.  The spring is behind it, make sure it's not broken.

It sounds like you may have it adjusted it too much 1 way or another.

Adjusting the tension on the spring causes the PV to close at different RPMs and it may not be closing at all right now.

After adjusting the tension, On the opposite side of the motor remove the PV window and check if the PV itself moves freely and returns when you move the arm.

**Side Note:  Your PV is supposed to CLOSE at high RPM.
