87 Zilla With VM44mm Mikuni Need Jetting Specs ?
« on: February 25, 2013, 04:01:04 pm »
I switched my pwk 38 to a 44mm mikuni and all I can say is OMG ! My zilla has mild portwork and a coolhead with .010 copper gasket and 15-40 gearing with 30 inch holeshots . It has a Q pipe and with the pwk I could never keep it running the same . I put the 44 on and it revs fast as heck . I was wondering what jetting you guys run with the 44 ? Also what needle ? This carb really woke this 500 up . Thank's

I think brass but chrome plated . This carb really revs like a small bore 2stroke .

The 44 really is the only carb I have ever seen make my 500 rev this fast . My main is a 520 but it may need more . It has a 35 pilot but idles up . I called Tony at T&N and he is an awesome person that will help anyone . I would recommend anyone with a zilla to buy a big mikuni from Tony . I bought my 44 years ago from Trinity for my other zilla that is apart right now and just wanted to try it on this one and man it makes a world of difference . I will be buying a 46 mm from Tony soon . The Zilla's do not lose any power from the big carbs . I wanted to know what jetting other people are running with the 44 .

The roundbore 44mm comes in either snowmobile or offroad versions from mikuni.  The snowmobile version comes with a 1.5 needle valve that is used with a fuel pump.  Needs to be changed to a 3.3 or larger valve for the zilla or you'll be running lean.

Same Question has been asked previously

http://www.suzukiquadracerhq.com/carburetor-jetting/vm44-round-slide-specs-please-help/msg5947/#msg5947

Also remember different builders mod different carbs differently and different pipes run different specs.

On my JH carb with a JH19, open dry filter, aggressive dune porting, and a fresh bottom end I'm running a 580 main with the specs listed in the above post.

You're short some information to even try to make a guess at where to start....porting, fuel type, elevation, air filter set up & type...etc  obviously from your comments it's running based on how it acting and how it sounds you should be able to make adjustments from there.
