I noticed some antifreeze around the front driver side cylinder nut after my wheeler sat for a week. I cleaned it off an ran it today. Didn't notice anything. Then checked it after it sad for a few hours. Below is the picture. What is causing this?
After further review it is leaking from the head ever so slightly......time for a new head gasket.
Get that beast o-ringed!!
That isn't in the budget right now. I have a run this Sunday (100 mile trail ride) then it goes off to Glamis for 3 months for a couple trips down there.
I had the top end done on August 2013 so it has lasted 4 dune trips and a half dozen trail rides.
I am going to have a buddy put in a new gasket (He is an expert I am not).
So why did it fail?
Had you re-torqued it since you put it on?
Can be multiple modes of Failure
Not flat anymore and beyond sealing capability of head gasket.
Crappy graphite steel cored gaskets, they only have @ a 2 year lifespan.
Chassis flex causing head to be shifted around
Studs need to be replaced stretched slightly and becoming elongated
Detonation causing head to lift
Over heating
Over torqued and pulling threads out of cylinder
or combination of multiple from above
Thanks for the information. New head gasket passed the 85 mile trail ride test yesterday.
Can anyone give me an estimate of the cost to get it o'ringed? I'd like to send the top out to get that done come spring time.
O ring mod is cheap, less than $200.00
Get the squish reworked at the same time.
