Ricky Stators LT500 Lighting 130W Stator.
« on: October 17, 2012, 03:58:17 pm »

Been thinking about the threads on Lighting for the last month, and how Ricky Stator got such bad reviews and realized I have one on my shelf , I opened it up to look at it and measured the coils, all seemed fine, so I called Ricky Stators and talked to  Mike Xaran who has been with Ricky Stators for 25 years about how they got a bad rap on their coils, He said that there is a Rick Stators (Not Ricky Stators) that got a bad stator plates from China that had the coils out to far that caused the coils to rub on the flywheels and short out.
Well, while I was talking to him on this I own a Ricky Stator that purchased last year and while we were talking I measured all the coils, location and height and all seem to be in spec for fly wheel clearance, see Pics
As to who's product failing I don’t know for sure, But for me I'll stay away from the Ricks, and RM stators.

As you can see these 130watt coils are nicely wound tight, he is using 400F insulated magnet wire UL approved, and the coils are bonded with varnish to make a solid wound coil.

Again I thought the same also, goes to prove the power of the internet. Who knows maybe his competitors stated that?

my old work use to order them and i never had to do a RMA on them.  (But we also never sold more then 20 of them..)

Good info.  I'll have to check mine out too as its just sitting in my garage.  Also purchased a set of 130watt lighting coils.... don't remember from Ricky Stator, Rick Stators, or RM Stator.  Maybe I'll dig it up in old emails.

I picked up just the lighting coils from Ricky Stator 5 or 6 years ago to run a pair of laser star lights and I haven't had a single problem.

I think I threw way my Ricky Stator stator last year.  :(  Pulled the parts off and thru away the plate as I thought it was bad due to internet info.  Oh well live and learn.  I think my buddy in Semi Valley has one too, I'll have to let him know to keep it, if it is truly Ricky Stator.

To be honest I dont know how to tell who's is who, if the coils are not varnished, return them.

I had a Ricky Stator on my 500 to run the light kit he sells as well. Last year the backing plate broke at the pickup coil. Took a while to diagnose the problem and irregular spark. Glad I didn't shell out the cash for a new CDI box.
Replaced it with another Ricky Stator and runs great.
