LT500 proper way to remove hood?
« on: January 06, 2018, 06:32:28 pm »
How do you guys install and remove the front hood on these quads without cracking/bending/flexing them too much.  I have a new one I want to put on and haven't figured out a good damage free way to do it yet.  My old ones were already **** so no big deal there.  Stock steering stem with headlight installed.  Thanks.

From my experience the only way to remove the hood without damaging it is to really take the extra step and completely remove the headlight, loosen the handlebars and pull them up out of the way as far as you can. Another set of hands makes it even easier to pull the hood up and make sure electrical, brake lines, etc. don't get snagged on it as you remove it. It's a real pain but it's the best way to make sure your nice new plastic doesn't get all scratched up immediately by the steering stem.

I was kind of thinking that and yes that is a pain.  I will practice that with an old hood first. Thanks.

Removing or installing old plastic during cold weather can be detrimental to the health of your plastic, unless you have the room at about 100 deg F or higher.

The plastic is definitely harder to deal with in the winter months.  I usually aim the space heater at them before I do anything with them in the cold
