87 zilla a arm bearing question
« on: August 11, 2017, 06:28:26 am »
Hi all.I have tried searching for this question, but when changing the bearings on the upper arms is there a special way of getting old ones out. Heating?, Screw driver and big hammer?.
Thanks

Those things can really seize in there and become part of the arm.  In the past, i've soaked them in penetrating oil and put a torch to them.  Maybe a machine shop can press them out. or used a socket and hammer.

Yep, I usually use a socket and hammer but a little penetrating oil and heat certainly helps.

Would have to be a long socket.

Have been doing the A arms on my new-to-me 87 as well, mine weren't too stuck to the A arm but were shot. I'm replacing the rods that run inside the bearings as well so I just took the old rod and used it as a punch of sorts.
