fox float shocks

im thinkin about buying a sett of fox floats, I weighed the stock fronts, they were alil over 12 lbs, are the floats considerably lighter?? and what should I order them for a banshee?? don't think they offer them for the 500

Floats are only like 6 pounds for the pair, if that. Not sure on the interchange though...

yeah im trying to shed some weight off her with out really making it a all out drag bike, my goal is 40 lbs between the bike and my personal diet lol, I figure maybe 20 lb of the bike

Banshee or maybe a Drr kasea mini quad. The raptor 125 are a 13.75" if I remember rite what are is the 500 length?

I know floats using air pressure vs springs to control prelode cover a very wide range of rider and quad weights....but what about valving.  do they still use conventional valving which is tuned specific to riding (desert vs mx)  or is all that tuned through air pressure too....

Reason I ask is I am looking for some nicer shocks for my rappy.  I have been looking for something used but want something set up for me.   I push 270 lbs so i have yet to find any used shocks for a big guy like me.  I was going to buy some used yfz450 shocks and have jerry or race tech revalve them.  but springs and revalve from race tech is an additional 600 bucks. so I would be into fronts for about 800-850.

I can buy top of line used fox floats for 550-750.  I know spring weight would not be an issue but what about the valving for my weight and desert/dune riding.  Cost asside at the end of the day which would be the better set up?

the floats use a conventional oil and shim setup for valving you will save money on the springs but the valving will be @ the same.  I really like the floats on the Mini we race.

the 500 front shocks are around 14.25 long If I remember right

iceracer---I am going to make a lot of assumptions here so correct me if you think I am wrong.  I assume a shock is valved different for a 270 lb rider vs 180 lb rider for the same condition--say--desert... But I dont realy know if weight effects valving.  I know spring rate varies by rider weight, and i know valving varies by the  terrain one will be riding in.  But I dont know if valving varies by rider weight.

I would assume than a yfz450 sprung and valved for me and desert riding would be better than a stock fox float evo (even though I believe the fox to be a much supierior shock than a stock YFZ450.

I also assume the fox "revalved" for me and desert riding would be better than the modded YFZ450.   At that point is comes down to a cost comparison.

Thats a lot to assume so let me know where you guys think I am right and wrong.

For my zilla I dropped the coin for PEP shocks set up for me---but I dont want to drop that money on my rappy.

Basically I want the best performing front shock set up for me for under 700 bucks.   My front stock shocks on the rappy  660 are not rebuildable or I would have them revalved the rears are rebuildable.

I spoke to jerry about swing arm lengthening and rebuilding the respring/revalve rear shock-  I think I will go that route on the rear.  I have to say jerry is one hell of a nice guy!!  I was so impressed he was willing to take the time with me on the phone to answer my questions.   Thanks jerry.
