I needed to redo the shock mounts on the metal tech a arms I got. I wanted full droop travel out of the a arms I got, the a arms extend another 1.25" downward when the shock is unbolted. So I cut off the shock mounting tabs and welding in new ones that allow full suspension downward travel. Cycling the a arms allowed 12" of travel, letting the ball joint bind downward and upwards. The trx450 front shock collapsed length I'm not sure about so I'm not sure if I'm getting the 12" travel I measured.
The unexpected benefit was the major reduction in bump steer w/ the z400 spindles. Now I run 1/8" toe in fully extended and at full suspension compression it toes in. The Zilla spindles have to be toed in at full droop and toes out as the suspension compresses, and toes back in at full compression.
The spindles allow a tighter turning radius which was another benefit. The Ackerman (where the inside wheel turns a tighter turning radius at full lock than the outside wheel) is more noticeable.

I thought these a arms were made for the 16.500" shock?
Yes they were but the set up wasn't preferable. All I had to do is get tabs that were 1/2" longer & weld them in at a different angle.
Could have used a 17.25" set of shocks ... Oh well

Do most of you set your toe the same way as Dezsled???I know mine I set to spec with a rider the same weight on and with our vintage toe in car align system.I can get some pics if you like.It works well for getting the straight ahead dead on and is super easy and quick as well.
If your only running 1/8 at fully unloaded how are you staying toed in at full compression?Not contradicting ya just curious because any ones I,ve seen need to be toes in a bit even with a rider on to avoid toe out coming down hard off of jumps.Maybe your updates change the geometry?Sounds like a great setup.
Mike, did you have to do any steering stem mods to keep the tie rod angle more parallel to the A-arms?

Dale the tie rods are almost parallel to the bottom a arm at full droop. No shimming or washers used.
