Front Hub Swap
« on: September 27, 2012, 07:41:05 pm »
If you want a 4-156 or 4-144 front hub on your lt 250 all you need is a set of Yamaha YFZ or 700 raptor hubs and rotors aftermarket or OEM, But they must use OE style or size id od bearings seals.

You will use all the oem Yamaha bearings, inner and outer seal's, outer bushing, washer? and nut. You will need a package of 8 mm washer's and 4 new 8x1.25x15 mm bolts.

Slide them on the spindel's tighten the cotter pin and nut. Shim the brake caliper between the mount and backing plate with 2 washers per bolt and your ready to ride.

A company called DLR make's a tapered bearing kit for these , hint it will work in a yamaha or Suzuki hubs the use all the same bearings with just the one seal being different.

Before you buy a new Zuk seal slide the hub on and see if the seal is correct, remove the spacer in the back of the hub first if it came with one.

Actually the 500 could work, If you had bigger rotors cut.

Apparently the 500 spindle shaft is differnt than a 250. So the swap requires some machining to work on a 500. See the 500 forum for Details.

Does this work for all year lt250r's? I just purchased a 85'. Would like to swap around some hubs to give me more wheel options.

Thanks Ice. Good info to know. Can you tell me what hubs can be swapped on the rear of a 85' to get more rim options?

any of the Yamaha hubs will work on the back as long as its a 24 spline axel. Some of the Honda 's will if there 24 also.

Can we please keep the peanut gallery from ruining this thread, please I beg you.
Its no mystery that any 24 spline hubs do fit< and if you google it once you will find a very long list concerning atv rear axle splines. I have only had an atv for a year and i have most memorized. There is a chart, or the very same chart that will list all the bolt patterns. then there is another place you can go and make print out with the bolt pattern so you can place it on wheels and drill custom bolt patterns yourself instead of swapping wheels.....
holy forgot why im here.... ogh yea in case you guys would like to know the front hub bearing refered to above are the SAME! no need to buy yamaha bearings.........

Dear sublunacy,

They both take the same bearings. The bolt pattern and studs size are different: Suzuki 4/166 8 mm Banshee 4/156 10 mm
LT250R '85-92 Quadracer. The only thing I can verify is they both use the same bearing.

thanks iceracer for a rockin post with all the goodies of information. i am pleased the spindle spacer is deleted.... so the hub bearings are farther apart so the interior hub bearing spacer is different. Are you saying the seals are different for sure?

I found Yamaha rear hubs fit better/easier than Honda hubs, the splines are 24 count, but are slightly different

Yes, the Honda 400EX hubs will work. They are 24 spline, but the splines are not exactly the same. I know because I used a set on my LT250R, but I had to beat them on with a mallet, they do not simply slide on like Yamaha hubs. I went with the Honda hubs because I wanted 4X110 pattern, and the Honda hubs give you +1" width on each side.

All honda 250r factory hubs are 25 and will not work, I have a few sets laying around.
honda 24 spline hubs  will work if they are slightly worn and or the axle is. If both sets of splines are in factory they will not slide in and will require some beating, heating or some form of fiddling. I have oem new honda 400ex hubs and they do not slide into a 24 splindle suz axle. 24 spline honda hubs ive test were 450r,400ex (both add width) and 200x hubs that are flat.
Yamaha hubs that I tried that were 24 spline and fit were banshee, yfz450, raptors, warriors. All flat. Yfz 450r fit and add width.

Up Date on FRONT HUBS COMPATIBILITY ANY YFZ, YFZR, YFZX up to 2012 will fit.
Banshee/Warrior with no outer seal and a really small nut will, I machined off the excess for my Ice only set up to use the large nut and just run a sealed bearing (Don't pressure wash, LOL).

Maybe I misunderstood but I removed the inner bearing spacer (that the inner hub seal rides) on when mounting my yfz hubs and w/in a few rides the outer bearing and seal pushed out causing my hub to start rubbing the caliper bracket. Im thinking something needed to be there....
